Assignment Descriptions

Final Project Proposal

For your final project, you will essentially be performing a systematic literature review on a research question of interest related to quantum computing. Working either alone or in pairs, select a research question related to quantum computing that you are interested in learning more about. Here are some examples:

You should discuss the question you plan to investigate with Dr. Bodily before you begin writing the proposal to ensure that it will pass muster and that it does not overlap with what others are doing for their projects. Use the Overleaf LaTeX template linked from the schedule. The idea is that your proposal document will be the beginning of your final manuscript. Your proposal should provide an introductory section that would provide an average undergraduate CS student with the knowledge needed to understand the question under investigation. This should include references as appopriate. Formulate the research question.

After formulating the research question, develop your research protocol. This should include a statement of the inclusion and exclusion criteria you will use to determine whether or not a study will be included in your search. I suggest that you pilot test your criteria to determine if other criteria should be added or removed.

Final Project Report

Once your proposal has been submitted, use the research protocol you outlined in the proposal to search for studies. You should use a reference manager, such as Endnnoe, Zotero, or Mendeley to collect all of the retreived records, and de-duplicate the library prior to screening. Select studies for inclusion based on the pre-defined criteria in your proposal.
