Graduate student opportunity

We are now recruiting a new Ph.D. student for a recently funded NSF award focused on intermittent and ephemeral stream hydrology and science communication.

The prospective student will have the opportunity to work on a stream permanence gradient at sites across the western US, including Critical Zone Observatory sites ( in Idaho and California. The research includes a strong field component as well as extensive data analysis. A complementary component of the project includes a year of science communication training at the McCall Outdoor Science School (, in McCall, Idaho, where the student will take graduate classes in science communication and work with elementary school students and river guides to better understand intermittent and ephemeral stream science.

The project is based in the Department of Geosciences at Idaho State University ( in Pocatello, Idaho, a collegial community of students, faculty and staff. Located in the northern Rockies, Pocatello is a small city with lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation. The project is designed to build students' professional networks across several western watersheds, and to integrate the student into the CZO community. The position is fully funded for five years, contingent on satisfactory progress and the receipt of NSF funds.

Interested students should contact Dr. Godsey ( with information about their academic background, their research interests, and any questions they may have.
