Application of low-temperature thermochronometry to constrain the timing of contractional and extensional tectonism

Investigation of the basement framework of the northern Rockies

LABORATORY EXPERIENCE

Built a mineral separation and picking laboratory at ISU consisting of: a Braun Chipmunk jaw crusher and disc mill, Wilfley shaking table, Frantz isodynamic magnetic separator, high-density liquids, stereographic polarizing microscope with a rotating stage and imaging and analysis software.

Mineral separation, preparation, and analysis for (U-Th)/He zircon and apatite thermochronology.

Mineral separation, preparation, and analysis for U/Pb zircon geochronology by Laser Ablation, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICPMS).

Mineral separation, dissolution, and column chemistry for Sm/Nd garnet-whole rock geo- and thermochronology. Analyses conducted by ICPMS and Isotope-Dilution Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (ID-TIMS).

Cathodoluminescence (CL) imaging and garnet inclusion characterization using scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS).

Quantitative elemental analysis of metamorphic phases in thin section using an electron microprobe to obtain geothermobarometric conditions of equilibration in high-grade metasedimentary rocks.
